Curve in New York City July 2013

Lucy and Ben were lucky enough to spend four action packed days in New York at the weekend, we thought you’d like to see some of the highlights of the trip.

Being art and design obsessives we were in our element in New York. We visited MOMA and the Guggenheim and felt privileged to enjoy the famous artworks close up, a life time of studying art coming alive with many of our favourite paintings right there in ‘real life’!

At MOMA we really enjoyed the exhibition ‘Le Corbusier: An Atlas of Modern Landscapes’ and marvelled at the details of the architectural drawings and models.

We also saw art from many independent galleries as we wandered through Chelsea which we would love to feature in a Curve project sometime in the future.

Surrounded by Manhattan’s incredible architecture we enjoyed the breathtaking view from the ‘Top of the Rock’ plus all the iconic buildings, Empire State, Freedom Tower, Chrysler Building, Flat Iron, Brooklyn Bridge etc etc etc! We took a helicopter tour up the Hudson river which gave outstanding views of the famous skyline. One of the highlights of the trip was the Highline Park a total marvel which we both loved and have brought the book home to learn all about how it was reborn.

We experienced some really cool interiors such as the Grand Central Oyster bar, the Plaza hotel, the Gramercy Tavern, the bar at the W hotel and the roof top bar at Haven and had a good look around the fabulous ABC carpets & home store – loads of inspiration to bring home!

Overall we just loved the style of New York, the influences of Modernism and Deco, the grid of streets and avenues, the beautiful buildings, the clues from a glamourous age gone by, the signage, the kooky shops, cool bars and endless inspiration of exciting design – it’s our kind of place, I hope we can go back soon!
