Curve, working with Barrie Thompson Garden Design

Curve are very excited to be working in collaboration with garden designer Barrie Thompson at a property in Uppermill, Saddleworth. Curve worked with the clients during 2013 on the conversion of a run down Victorian cottage in the heart of the village. The brief involved completely renovating and decorating and furnishing the property, replanning the internal space and creating a beautiful environment for a hugely interesting couple, which was finished off perfectly with their collection of geology, music and travel artefacts. During the early Spring of 2014 the client moved back permanently to the UK from Texas and the time was right to move onto the design of the exterior of the property.

Curve met Barrie Thompson following us both being shortlisted at the Northern Design Awards in 2013, it seemed that the ethos and styles of the two companies complemented each other perfectly and we looked forward to a time when we could work together.

Barrie Thompson Garden Design is one of the UK’s up and coming garden design practices, offering a comprehensive design service for any garden or outside space. Based near Manchester, the studio aims to create contemporary gardens and landscapes that offer depth, using layers, textures and contrast.

We met with Barrie and discussed the possibilities for designing the exterior space at Uppermill, the property has a rear courtyard garden, a space to the side of the house which needed to include car parking, and a small garden to the front of the cottage.

Barrie then met and agreed the project with the client, and has now embarked on the design after discussing the brief with them. Contemporary and classic with a touch of anarchy and rebellion. The contrasting elements will mainly come from the planting which will evolve throughout the year. It must also be a restful and relaxing space on those late summer evenings, so a sense of seclusion and privacy is important.

We are very much looking forward to following progression of the project throughout the year – followed by further collaborations which are in the early stages of discussion, including another garden design in South Manchester, and a living wall in a city centre apartment.

Uppermill .. before and after.

Image

Last year Curve were appointed to work on the complete refurbishment of this fabulous house in Uppermill, Saddleworth. This was a dream project for Curve, being in one of our favourite locations to work. There was also a personal connection, as the client was Ben’s uncle’s colleague all the way from Houston, Texas!

Georgie and Ben took the project from the initial stages of planning a whole new layout to the house, totally stripped back the interior and refitted to include a beautiful hand made kitchen, new bathrooms and an attic recording studio. Each room was decorated and furnished, right down to the last details of lighting design and window treatments.

The new interior provided a perfect palette for the client’s eclectic collection of artwork and artifacts from around the world. The project is now completed and will be featured in full in our portfolio later this Spring .. for now we thought you’d like to see these snaps of how the house looked ‘before and after’ Curve got involved!

Gelli Gynan Hall, Wales

A few weeks ago Curve were appointed to undertake an exciting job at the beautiful Gelli Gynan estate in North Wales. The property is currently for sale and the owners wished to furnish and dress some of the rooms to appeal to potential buyers … the major challenge being that the estate agent’s photographer was booked within two weeks time, so we had to move FAST!

Jessie rose to the challenge and we quickly visited some of our favourite suppliers to see which pieces of furniture we could purchase quickly. We then put together schemes, organised some decorating in key areas and got our super curtain makers on the case!

The style of the property being a combination of Georgian and Jacobean architecture the client requested that we source furniture in keeping with and to complement the different areas of the house.

The team took a few trips over the Wales for the install, and then made purchases the accessorise the rooms and get them ready for the shoot that took place on time with great results as you can see below.

We have found that when selling houses of this kind of value, a spend on the interior before photographing the property can really pay off. Curve are currently involved in a similar project in Sloane Square, London so we’ll look forward to bringing you the results soon.

Mallorca Villa Project

One of Curve’s favourite destinations over the past five years has been Port D’Andratx in Mallorca where we have completed many projects including slick kitchens, super modern homes overlooking the sea, ready to move into turn key properties, traditional Spanish fincas and stylish outdoor pools and terraces.

This beautiful modern villa looks out from the headland at La Mola.

Curve were involved with the design of both the inside and the pool area (above) .. the fabulous nautical blue and white piped cushions were custom designed and made by our supplier in the UK and shipped out to the island to complete the smart poolside look.

For this project we shipped furniture from all over the world, including lots of products from Restoration Hardware, all the way from America. We have become experts in global logistics which our clients overseas value greatly when completing these types of projects. Our install team are also greatly experienced at working on jobs abroad now ensuring that everything (mostly!) runs smoothly!

Curve and the Message Enterprise Centre

Curve were very excited to be approached by our friend, the wonderful architect Grace Choi to get involved in the interior design and furniture specification for her major new project for the Message Trust in Manchester.

Image

In January 2013, the charity opened the Message Enterprise Centre, a new business and training hub for young people in the region. An existing dilapidated building was stripped back, re-used and transformed into a new social Enterprise Centre, creating an incubator for training, mentoring and helping individuals return into the working world. The Message Enterprise Centre tackles head-on two of the biggest problems our society faces: repeat offending and youth unemployment.

The Message wanted to furnish the interior to complement to the amazing design of the building, Curve were briefed to design schemes for the cafe area, offices and salon, as well as ‘the street’, the large communal area running down the centre of the space. We took inspiration from the colours used on the external elements and included some great design pieces such as the Magis Air chairs in black, orange and white. Lucy and Ben met with furniture designer James Burleigh during London Design Week and commissioned the beautiful red benches and seating to match the colourscheme.

Sunny days Mallorca 2012

This week sees the completion of two major projects in Mallorca for Curve.

The first property is a family home in the area of Santa Ponsa. The property is a conversion of a Spanish style finca, and has been tastefully furnished by Curve with attention to everything from the decoration to fitted and loose furniture, curtains and accessories.

The second project is a modern villa overlooking the sea in Port D’Andratx and has also been furnished throughout including the outdoor terrace and pool areas.

Curve have been working on the island for the past 4 years completing several prestigious projects. The experience we have with organising the logistics of working abroad are invaluable to clients who require the standard of design we can offer them for their homes overseas. Our installation team are confident working away from home and for these projects we have flown out fitters, decorators and curtain makers to make sure everything has run smoothly.

We are looking forward to getting the two projects photographed in the coming weeks so we can add them to our portfolio .. watch this space!
